As the main character seems to have magical abilities that greatly outweigh those he had in the original, this isn't truly a sequel to the first "Leprechaun," more of a "Nightmare on Elm Street" want tobe. It's a meaner and gorier movie, but it's also one that's even more dumb; there are certain parts in it (blog post) that are insultingly stupid (particularly the two "red herrings", which may make you stop watching it right then and there). Overall, even fans of lousy movies could find this one challenging.
